Nissan H233B Front Axle – By Diamond

This axle would accomodate a H233B 3rd Member with D44 outters and flat top knuckles, Chromoly Axle Shafts, Warn Premium Hubs. Your choice of gear ratio and ARB locker would also be available. This Diamond Axle would be the ideal axle for straight axle conversions on Nissans equiped with a H233B Rear Axle.  If carrying a spare complete 3rd member on the trail, it would fit both front and rear axles.

D60 & Toyota outters are also an option.

  1. Now that would be very cool. 31 spline or 33 spline? Of course, you still have the very expensive lockers/gears problem. but you can pick up a used 3rd member with gears pretty cheaply, bolt it in , and be off.

  2. I like the idea, but this doesnt make any sense to me. The whole problem with the H233 is the R&P costs. This is giving you the ability to upgrade the shafts and run D44 outers, but the stock H233 is just fine!!!!!!.

I would focus on making cheaper R&P gears. Otherwise your just moving the most expensive part into a new axle. That is why people are moving to D44 in the rear, its the cost.

  3. That would be a very cool option, I would love to see a estimated price though, I’m guessing around the2-3k mark?

  4. Robin,
I’m also working on R&P’s check it out here:

    Sam,
The Axle housing W/ 3.5″ axle tubes, D44 Inner C’s, SOLID Flat Top Knuckle and a Front End kit from SOLID ( http://ruggedrocksoffroad.com/solid-axle-dana-44-front-end-kit-30-spline-chromoly-stub-shafts-on-55-bolt-pattern-p-3640.html) Chromoly Inner axle shafts but without the 3rd member you’re looking at about $3400

The empty housings with only inner C’s start at about $900

  5. I would love to make a comment, but i don’t know much about axles…..i’m not even sure what i have on my 1997 Pathfinder SE

  6. Damn, that’s a good idea. I have a spare H233B in the garage right now, even. 😀

Now, if only the gears could be cheaper so we could afford the axle. 😉

  7. That’s pretty bad ass!
If I was building me a sas’d rig I’d prolly go for that axle keep it a little more nissan…

  8. Nice! I also have a spare H233b in the garage… This will be very cool when I make the swap to SAS!

  9. I’d love to see this come into existence. A matching bolt up kit to connect it into our trucks would be just as important.

  10. I would love to install this in my truck! I think the most important issue is the cost. A complete used D44 from a wagoneer will run around $300 plus the rebuild/upgrades.

This new diamond shape from axle would get expensive very quickly. This might be a hang-up for nissan owners. I do really like the same ring and pinion for both the front and rear.

  11. I would definitely lean towards this option as far as SAS goes but i am curious as to what the tire size limits would be for this axle, i would like to run 35’s to 37’s, i know that the rear axle is pretty sturdy though.

  12. im currently running a D44 in the front on my sas and would gladly switch to this and do a 3 link option.

also are you planning to make other gears aside from the 5.38s

and 300 dollars for a complete rebuild/upgraded D44 let me know where you getting that price cause i can almost guarantee that is wrong. becaseu your probably gonna spend at least 200 for the axle before you get gears which are gonna be 150 ish plus install kit, then if you have to switch out the bearings and brakes/rotors, not to mention a locker if your going that route and then if you decide to go highsteer you have to locate flattop knuckles get them drilled and tapped…….. that alone right there would probably be near 1000 easy so as far as cost goes i would have to disagree for 300 dollars.

but anyways a diamond axle is a genius idea and the fact that you can have different outers put on it allows people to change it to what they needf with not much issues. Also welding to this would be so much easier. plus its something different everyone has a a D44 (which steering stinks) the diamond axle would be able to compensate for all this and be stronger then a D44

  13. That is nice, but very expensive. Having a removable 3rd member is so nice!

I paid $75 for a used D44 out of a Wagoneer. I still gotta pay for upgrades and rebuild parts. I paid $50 for a used LSD carrier for the D44, but have no gears yet.

  14. How much for just the housing no c’s? I would rather run 60 outers with 6 lug hubs to match the rear instead of dana 44 stuff.

  15. I’m slowly making progress on the H233B axles in general.
I should have quotes on the install kits for regearing very soon. as well as H233B gears in a 5.38 ratio.
We’re also going to have a new lock-right out soon if everything goes right.
once these are done i’ll be putting this all together into this axle but i don’t have a final price yet.
the cost of the inners will vary depending on which outers are used. D44, D60, Toyota are all options.
if we use D44 outers they would run about $540 for the pair in chromoly. the inner shafts plus the housing your are looking at about $1600
