About Us
After riding dirt bikes on and off during my childhood, I had eventually found myself helping out with managing the technical side of things and covering phone calls for an online store selling dirt bike parts. After a few years I had slowly lost most of my interest in riding and had a growing interest in 4-wheeling and had started throwing around the idea of starting a website of my own but in the 4x4 market. I threw this idea around for a while until February of 2006, when I had broken my knee while snowboarding. While I was down on the couch with a full leg cast for a few months I started building the website and took the little money that I had and made Rugged Rocks Off Road and Communications a legit company in March of 2006. The "Communications" part of the company comes from my interest in ham radio and the intent to make ham radios available to my customers who realize that ham radios work much better on the trail than a CB.

My first 4x4 was a 1990 Nissan Pathfinder which I still take to the trail today, started out as 2wd and was converted to 4wd IFS which then later got a solid axle Dana 44 up front as covered in my article on 4 Wheel Drive and Sport Utility Magazines website, you can read it here: Nissan Pathfinder Solid Axle Swap. This truck has been a joy to wheel over the years and being that the Nissan aftermarket is far behind the Jeeps and Toyotas I have recently been working with a few aftermarket companies to come out with products that the 4x4 Nissan enthusiasts can benefit from. Discovering that the All-Pro Off-Road Toyota Tacoma SAS kit can be installed on the early Nissan Pathfinders with minimal modification was a pleasant surprise. This is a small step for the Nissan off road community but I will continue to work with the aftermarket to provide the necessary products to dramatically enhance the off road ability of Nissan 4x4's. The Pathfinders solid axle swap is only the beginning. Keep an eye out in the Rugged Rocks Forum for new aftermarket parts specifically designed for Nissan 4x4's. If you have any questions comments or ideas, feel free to post it in the forums or send me an e-mail at: steven@ruggedrocksoffroad.com

Thanks,
-Steven
